MER FOLK

  MERMAIDS

- Strong protectors, especially of women

A fabled marine creature usually represented with a woman's body and the tail of a fish.

In folklore, the mermaid is frequently described as appearing above the surface of the water and combing her long hair with one hand while holding a mirror in the other.

Mermaids, in the numerous tales told of them, often foretell the future, sometimes under compulsion give supernatural powers to human beings.

A similarity exists between the stories concerning mermaids and those told about the Sirens.

  NEREIDS

- Happy but irresponsible outlook

Mythological precursor to mermaids.

The Nereids are the fifty daughters of Nereus and Doris who dwell in the Mediterranean Sea. These beautiful women were always friendly and helpful towards sailors fighting perilous storms.

They are believed to be able to prophesize.

Considered Goddesses of the sea.

The NEREIDS are also remembered for having helped the ARGONAUTS to steer their ship when they encountered Charybdis and Scylla 1, and the Wandering Rocks.
